Ubercart

Today I found a very informative blog post on the boxes and arrows user interface and web usability website that talks all about creating a better search experience for website visitors. During the Birds of a Feather session at DrupalCon Boston many of these key aspects of search were discussed and are on the agenda to be addressed at the Minnesota Search Sprint next weekend.

The original Ubercart Coupon Module. This module allows site administrators to provide coupons for discounts during the checkout process. For usage and instructions please read the readme.txt included in the module's uc_coupon folder.

Features:

• Coupons can be limited to x number of uses
• Coupons can be applied only to orders with minimum amount values
• Coupons can be restricted to either retail or wholesale users (set via user roles/permissions)
• Coupons can be restricted to individual user accounts

This past weekend was a great opportunity once again to meet fellow Drupal enthusiasts and developers at the DrupalCamp LA event which took place at the AOL campus in Hollywood. I was very excited to present a session regarding the UberCart module's features and development possibilities.

As the web developer at Blankstyle Clothing I just finished a 2 month project to revamp our ecommerce clothing and apparel website on the drupal content management system. With the help of a great new ecommerce project called Ubercart I have been able to release a sexy looking, SEO friendly and easy to manage/maintain website with the power and flexibility for future expansion.

Well after a few requests I finally found some time to revisit the coupon module and implement some of the requests. This new version comes complete with order amount minimums!

All Fixes

• Added Order Amount Minimums.
• Display the coupon code in the coupon listing table.
• Cleaned up some of the code

Today I decided to work on the menu for the new shop I'm building. I really didn't like the idea of a folding menu because I'm only going to have 2 levels of categories, and even still, I wanted all menu items seen at all times for easier navigation. The code I whipped up goes is attached in a .txt file.

So about 4 days ago I started out to make a coupon module for the Ubercart ecommerce module. So far so good, I have some screen shots to show of the administrative interface that I have completed. I'm yet to add the functionality of limiting the coupons to only certain users or roles. My hope is to release that functionality in a second release after the initial framework has been completed.

Over the past few days I've spent some time setting up a new ecommerce website for my new work. In the past I've always opted for a ZenCart solution. Never again, will I do a ZenCart or OSCommerce site again. The benefits of throwing up a quick install with bad SEO, an atrociously steep theming system, and complete lack of content management capabilities, just somehow can't compare to a Drupal driven system that needed some custom coding.
