UberCart... it really is Uber!

|

Over the past few days I've spent some time setting up a new ecommerce website for my new work. In the past I've always opted for a ZenCart solution. Never again, will I do a ZenCart or OSCommerce site again. The benefits of throwing up a quick install with bad SEO, an atrociously steep theming system, and complete lack of content management capabilities, just somehow can't compare to a Drupal driven system that needed some custom coding.

But enough on other systems, the reason why I like Ubercart so much (and you should too), is because of how damn integrated it is with Drupal. The developers have even gone so far as to create new Drupalesk hooks for developers to tie into with custom modules. As of now, the system is in the alpha 5 stage of development.

Ubercart offers the following outstanding features that make me truly believe it is going to be the best solution for open source ecommerce:

  • Outstanding user and order administration, including administration placed orders without browsing the site to add items
  • Pre integration with Drupal's search engine, user capabilities, search engine friendliness, content publishing power, and tremendous support for themes
  • Simplicity to integrate any online merchant processing using the basic module provided
  • Centralization of customized pricing structure available in a single php function
  • Last but not least, the Drupal community.
  • Don't get me wrong, this solution is not fully ready for those without experience using or coding for Drupal; but I can see it coming soon...

I am one of the developers

I am one of the developers for Ubercart. Thanks for the great review. We are working hard to make Ubercart more user friendly. Keep an eye out for the Uber simple installer we have in the works. I hope we can live up to your positive review.
Thanks,

Ubercart, the free e-commerce shopping cart.

Do this shopping cart allow

Do this shopping cart allow items to be downloaded?

We have products that will need to be downloaded.

Unfortunately the cart does

Unfortunately the cart does not come ready to go live with downloadable product capability. It may be an option to post this as a project on the ubercart.org forums and have developers either step up to make it happen or bid on a project that you would be willing to pay for. In either case, I recommend searching/browsing through the forums to see if anyone else has gotten this to work yet.

Just in case this is the

Just in case this is the first place folks find out about Ubercart, I do want to point out that CpILL has recently posted a downloadables module he calls "File Product" in our contributions area:

Very nice, this addition

Very nice, this addition will definitely help convince more store owners that Ubercart will be an effective solution for their online businesses.

There is a fileproduct

There is a fileproduct module in the ubercart contributions directory. It allows you to associate a file with a product. Once you purchase the product, you can download the file.

In case anyone is interested

In case anyone is interested in file downloads and ubercart, we have integrated file downloads into ubercart as of our alpha 8 release. You can pick up the latest stable release at http://drupal.org/project/ubercart

Hi Does ubercart has

Hi

Does ubercart has functionality to communicate with a database to check if a certain product is no longer in the warehouse and to remove it from the catalog or something like that?

Thanks.
Petya

Option for flexible product

Option for flexible product attributes based on taxonomy.

May be there is available but not sure.

Does ubercart provide the functionality for adding product attributes based on product taxonomy? Assume i have added a taxonomy for available sizes as 1,2,3,4...50 and it is set as multiple select box.If i have selected sizes 1,2,3,4,5,19,30 and i want only these 8 to appear as a size option for my product how such thing is achived?

Thanks
